Samples of recordings made with a Zoom H2 Handy Recorder.
Tom Principato band, live at the Globe Theatre, Berlin, MD on 07/03/08. Mic was placed at head height, approximately 20 feet from the stage. The Globe is a very small movie theatre converted to a dinner theatre. The recording sounds pretty good, to my ears, all things considered. Settings are Mic - lo gain; record level – 100; 2 mics/90 degrees; 24 bit/44.1 wav.

Robben Ford trio at the Ramshead, Annapolis, MD on June 06/21/08. This "stealth" recording was achieved by placing the recorder in a shirt pocket. Location was approximately 15 feet from stage left. Similar settings as above. Toss Panos on drums and Justin Carlson on bass.
